AAC SLP and Speech and Language Pathologist

AAC Speech and Language Pathologist

Speech and Language Pathologists work in several schools in the district to provide evaluation and remediation of a range of communicative difficulties in school populations (Kindergarten to Grade 12). As a member of a School Based Team, the Speech and Language Pathologist will be required to work collaboratively and provide consultative support to teachers, support staff, and families. This position requires travel to various school sites. Applicants must be members of the B.C. College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals.

  • The AAC SLP provides a range of services (intervention, consultation, assessment, etc.) to students in the district who require Augmentative Communication intervention.
  • This position is based in Learning Services and provides services to students in elementary schools who require support with AAC.
  • Must be a member of the B.C. College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postgraduate Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and eligibility for certification with the Canadian Association for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
  • Experience and relevant coursework in the field of Augmentative Communication.
  • Experience and relevant coursework in implementation of a wide variety of AAC strategies, including PECS, Partner Assisted Scanning, developmental language approaches, etc.
  • Experience and knowledge in the creation and implementation of AAC solutions, including all symbolic levels, use of Board Maker, etc.
  • Experience and knowledge in the implementation and programming of a wide variety of low and high-tech communication devices, including single and multiple-message, dynamic display, and mind speak devices.
  • Experience and comfort in providing in-service and workshops to parents, schools, and district staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with schools, home, and agency-based partners.
