As a Speech-Language Pathologist (Full-Time, Location: Sudbury, Espanola, Manitoulin Island, Elliot Lake, North Bay, Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Haileybury, or Parry Sound), you are responsible for the provision of speech-language pathology services to Ontario Health at Home patients to address and improve communication and/or swallowing disorders.

Whether you work in our office, in the community, or a health care facility – you will play a lead role in providing connected, accessible, patient-centered care – and be supported by our collaborative team that includes over 9,000 regulated health care and other professionals.

What will you do?

  1. Respond to patient referrals from Care Coordinators to properly administer speech-language pathology services.
  2. Assess patient communication and/or swallowing abilities, using a variety of standardized and non-standardized assessment tools, to determine their treatment needs and therapy goals.
  3. Develop and implement treatment programs and/or compensatory strategies/techniques to address established therapy goals as they relate to communication, language skills, and/or swallowing function.
  4. Oversee patients’ progress and adjust treatment programs when needed, to ensure therapy goals are met.
  5. Educate and train patients, their families, caregivers, and/or substitute decision-makers, on how to progress with the treatment plan.
  6. Link patients with other in-house services or outside organizations if needed.
  7. Balance patients’ needs and choices with available resources, ensuring their values and preferences are respected.
  8. Accurately document and chart patients’ assessment results, goals, treatment plans, and interventions.

What must you have?

  • Registered Speech-Language Pathologist in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
  • In-depth knowledge of speech-language pathology services and other community resources, treatment centers, and organizations.
  • Good understanding of the roles of other health care professionals.
  • Relevant speech-language pathology experience in a community/health care environment.
  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of speech-language pathology tools, processes, equipment, and assistive technology.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. regarding the provision of health care services, privacy, health, and safety, etc.).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and professional guidelines set forth by CASLPO.
  • Ability to prioritize professional duties and manage multiple patients, and efficiently organize workload.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work with diverse patient groups, Care Coordinators, family members/caregivers/Substitute Decision Makers, health care professionals, community organizations, and service providers.
  • Effective listening, observation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively through a variety of means including meetings, reports, letters, and presentations.
  • Working knowledge of computer software (email, internet) and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle as regular travel will be required.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in English essential.
  • We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date.

What would give you the edge?

  1. Experience working with diverse patient groups, e.g., multicultural, homeless, palliative, acquired brain injury (ABI), mental health, geriatrics, pediatrics.
  2. Case management experience or recent related community experience.
  3. Ability to speak French or another second language.

French Proficiency: French an asset
