Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $42.27/Hr. - CAD $52.81/Hr.

Summary

Providence Health Care's Speech Language Pathology department is currently accepting applications for both our acute and long-term care teams at various sites across the City of Vancouver. Our SLPs are key members of our Allied Health team, working closely with other Allied disciplines like Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy as well as other members of our care teams to tackle the rewarding variety of treatment needs of the patient populations we serve. With a tight-knit and supportive departmental working environment that fosters a sense of community amongst practitioners dedicated to patient care, being an SLP at Providence provides incredible opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, mentorship, and professional development.

Your Duties Will Include:
  • Performing physiotherapy assessments and treatments, including patient education and follow-up, as well as planning and implementing patient/resident care programs to prevent or alleviate movement dysfunction.
  • Educating patients/residents, families, and team members through various teaching methods.
  • Supporting clinical research activities and data collection.
  • Maintaining patient/resident records in accordance with standards and policies.
  • Staying updated on developments in physiotherapy through professional literature and education programs.
What You Bring

Education:

  • Current full registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).

Skills & Abilities:

  • Collaborates effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Works proficiently with patients and families to assess and treat communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Provides supervision and teaching to students.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Deals with others effectively.
  • Demonstrates physical ability to perform job duties.

Your Day to Day:
  • Provides direct intervention for patients with communication and swallowing problems.
  • Utilizes appropriate assessment instruments to determine diagnosis and therapy program.
  • Maintains effective communication with all staff and collaborates with the treatment team, patients, and families.
  • Educates patients, families, and staff about communication and swallowing deficits and ongoing management.
  • Maintains an organized work environment and schedules patient sessions according to guidelines.
  • Reports patient care issues to the Professional Practice Leader and assists in identifying service improvement opportunities.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding the service and maintains accurate records and reports.
  • Stays updated with current knowledge through educational activities and assists in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and evaluates in-service education and programs for patients and families.
  • Represents Communication Disorders on interdisciplinary committees and identifies site initiatives.
