Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to provide community visits across Ontario, assessing and treating adult and pediatric clients with speech, language, and swallowing disorders.

You will develop personalized treatment plans, educate families, collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, and stay current with diagnostic procedures. A degree in Speech Language Pathology and provincial registration are required; VPS clearance and transportation access are needed.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Speech Language Pathology and active provincial registration.
  • Minimum 1 year of speech language pathology experience; community health preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of speech and swallowing disorders and treatments.
  • Ability to educate patients and families clearly and compassionately.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat communication disorders including speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing.
  • Develop, plan, and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Create patient-specific care plans and coordinate with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Educate and counsel patients and families on communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Research and contribute to new diagnostic procedures and devices.
  • Instruct and supervise communicative disorders assistants and students.

Current registration with the provincial licensing body where applicable.Minimum 1 year speech language pathology experience, community health experience preferred.Technical knowledge of different speech and swallowing disorders and how to treat them.Technical knowledge of specialized equipment for testing and treating speech and swallowing disorders.Ability to create a patient-centered treatment plan that would fit into the patient’s life and help improve their symptoms.Ability to work with a diverse team of medical professionals.Advanced communication skills, with the ability to explain speech and swallowing disorders to patients and their families.Able to provide a current, clear Vulnerable Position Screening (VPS)Access to reliable transportation as this position requires visiting multiple locations daily.We are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring process.
