The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible and accountable to the Manager, Interprofessional Practice, for the provision of quality care, assessment, treatment, education, and counselling to patients with swallowing and communication impairments as established by the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and the standards of speech language pathology care of the hospital. You will work as an active member of a multidisciplinary team.

This role primarily supports patients in General Internal Medicine and Complex Continuing Care, but there may be coverage requirements in ICU, cardio-respiratory, cardiology, and surgery.

Education

  • Masters' Degree in Speech Language Pathology;
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in acute care hospital-based SLP care delivery required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with recent experience in cardio-respiratory, geriatrics, surgery, ICU, cardiology, acute general medicine, and stroke.
  • Experience with video fluorographic swallow studies is required.
  • Experience with tracheostomized individuals is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member.
  • Willingness to participate in or lead health service councils and task groups.
  • Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of the hospital/health service.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development.
  • Evening and weekend shifts may be necessary on rotation.
  • Good work and attendance record required.
