Job summary

Harrison County School District seeks a Teacher Assistant SPED to support instruction and individualized training plans. You will work under the Building Principal and Certified Teacher, assisting with planning, group activities, and student supervision.

The role requires meeting Mississippi educational standards, passing background and abuse registry checks, and maintaining student records. Salary is set per the Administrative Salary Schedule, with 184 days annually.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least 2 years of study forty-eight (48) semester hours, or an associate’s degree, or met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment.
• Criminal background check and child abuse registry check required.
• Satisfactory employment record.

Responsibilities

• Participate in district and school professional development programs.
• Comply with district policies and procedures.
• Participate in daily and long-range lesson planning with the certified teacher.
• Model reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
• Reinforce skills taught by a certified teacher with groups of children.
• Monitor student work and report misunderstandings for re-teaching.
• Alert the teacher to special needs of individual children.
• Provide escort and assistance to students in cafeteria, restrooms, and playground.
• Maintain awareness of hazards in the school environment.
• Assist in maintaining student records and educational displays.
• Support physical activities to strengthen large motor skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Principal or Certified Teacher.
