Job description

This position offers a full-time training opportunity (theory and practicum) to prepare staff for work in a specific Island Health specialty department. Upon successful completion, staff will be placed into a regular full-time rotation within that department.

Note: There is an 18-month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the same specialty department. Staff may transfer between Island Health departments within that specialty. The post-basic training requires full-time attendance. For more information, visit the Professional Practice Website.

Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Responsible for planning and providing direct nursing care to patients/residents in hospital or community settings, following the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications:

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN, with recent medical and/or surgical experience. Upon completing the specialty training, employees will transition into a regular position within the department.

  • Work hours, including days off and work areas, may change based on operational needs and collective agreement provisions.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize workload and prioritize tasks.
