Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous quality and safety improvements are inherent in all aspects of this position.

This position offers a full-time training opportunity (theory and practicum) to prepare staff for work in the specified Island Health specialty department. Upon completion, staff will be placed into a regular full-time rotation within that department. Part-time options may be available based on vacancies.

Note: There is an 18-month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the trained department. Staff may transfer within Island Health departments within the same specialty. Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Responsible for planning and providing direct nursing care in hospital or community settings, adhering to unit philosophy, policies, and professional standards.

Qualifications:

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN, with recent medical and/or surgical experience.
  • Successful completion of the specialty training will lead to placement in a regular position within the department.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize workload and prioritize tasks.
