Job description

This position offers a full-time training opportunity, combining theory and practicum, to prepare staff for roles in the Island Health specialty department. Upon completing the training, staff will be placed into a full-time rotation within the relevant department.

Note: There is an 18-month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the same specialty department. Staff may transfer between departments within Island Health within that specialty. The post-basic training requires full-time attendance. Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Responsibilities include planning and providing direct nursing care in hospital or community settings, following the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN, with recent medical and/or surgical experience.
  • Upon completion of the specialty training, staff will be transitioned into a regular position within the department.

The work hours, including days off and work area, may vary based on operational needs and collective agreement provisions.
