Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Emergency Department at Dawson Creek & District Hospital.

Role and Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care to Emergency and High Acuity Care patients according to established standards and policies, and in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health. Responsibilities include identifying, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care to assist patients in meeting physical, social, and psychological needs in the Emergency and High Acuity Care environment.

Education and Training Program (REDEP / HAU)

The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized online curriculum offered by Elsevier, Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO). REDEP combines ENO online study with a skills/simulation lab and clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent emergency nursing care at a novice level. Upon completion of REDEP, learners transition into the Northern Health Critical Care Program - High Acuity Unit (NHCCP-HAU) with Essentials in Critical Care Orientation (ECCO). ECCO combines online curriculum with clinical practicum to prepare nurses to work in a High Acuity Unit at a novice level.

Training Positions and Requirements
  • There are 7 training positions available for 2025 / 2026
  • Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
  • Successful candidates may be required to complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position
  • Learners should expect to make a 4-6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
  • Additional study time outside of scheduled hours will be required to successfully complete the program
  • Flexibility for practicums is necessary
  • Prior experience on an acute care ward (e.g., medical/surgical) preferred
  • Must have completed Heart and Stroke BLS in the last 6 months
  • Preference for participants who have completed an ECG course prior to beginning REDEP
  • Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
  • Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program
  • Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions; if none are qualified, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants with training provided
