Overview

Do you have a passion for nursing? Do you want to extend your nursing knowledge? We have a training opportunity that may interest you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Critical Care department at Fort St. John Hospital.

Under the direction of the Manager, Med/Surg; ICU; In-patients, the nurse is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients presenting in the ICU Unit.

Education and Training

ECCO – Critical Care Education
Developed by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), ECCO is an accredited program used within BC health authorities for over two decades. The program begins with the 14 hour AACN Essentials of ECG and Dysrhythmia Monitoring. ECCO then includes a 7-week theory portion using online learning modules, in-class review, skills labs, simulation, and clinical practicum to introduce learners to critical care nursing. Week 8 includes Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR). Week 9 focuses on the pediatric population to include Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), with lab, simulation, and theory days. Northern Health In-House Critical Care Training Program Details:

  • There are 3 training positions available for 2025/2026
  • Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
  • Successful candidates may be required to complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position
  • Learners should expect to make a 4 – 6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
  • Additional study time outside of scheduled hours will be required to successfully complete the program
  • Flexibility for practicums is necessary
  • Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
  • Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program
  • Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions; if there are no qualified applicants, training lines may be awarded to unqualified applicants with training provided

Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre has 44 Acute Care beds and 124 residential beds and is equipped to handle 22,000 ER visits per year. Highlights include:

  • Endoscopy suite, 2 state-of-the-art operating rooms, plus a procedure room
  • Ambulatory clinics including Cancer and Hemodialysis
  • Medical and Surgical inpatient rooms (40 beds)
  • 3 Intensive care units
  • Minor surgeries
  • 7 single Maternity rooms for Labour, Delivery, and Post-Partum

Fort St. John is known as “The Energetic City” and serves as the hub of the Northeast with a resource base in oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture.
