We are seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Med Surg department at the Fort Nelson Hospital.

Working within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards of Practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Northern Health, the LPN works closely with the care team in direct care activities such as assessing. Planning, implementing, evaluating interventions, and coordinating health services for the Emergency Department patients. Participates in discharge and/or care planning, functions as a patient advocate, and teaches patients and their families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family. Establishes, maintains, and enhances therapeutic relationships based on respect. Under a team-based model, provides care to patients across the lifespan, and their families, based on stable and/or predictable states of health by initiating and following established plans of care. Recognizes and responds to unexpected patient outcomes by communicating and collaborating with other members of the healthcare team. Documents care provided and response to incidents in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Emergency Department expectations. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers as needed.

Northern Health Regional Emergency Training Program Details: The Northern Health Regional Emergency Department Education Program (REDEP) utilizes a standardized, evidence informed on-line curriculum offered by Elsevier, called Emergency Nursing Orientation (ENO). REDEP combines Elsevier's ENO online curriculum with a skills/simulation lab and clinical practicum to prepare registered nurses to provide safe and competent emergency nursing care, at a novice level.

There is 1 training positions available for 2025/2026.

Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
Successful candidates may be required complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position
Learners should expect to make a 4-6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, will be required to successfully complete the program
Must have completed Heart and Stroke BLS in the last 6 months
Flexibility for practicums is necessary
Prior experience on an acute care ward (i.e. medical/surgical) preferred
Current BLS certification within a year is mandatory prior to the skills/simulation
Preference for participants who have completed an electrocardiogram (ECG) course prior to beginning REDEP.
Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided
