Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our Community Services Department - Recreation Division as a Specialized Instructor, Uncertified (Adult Art).

Position Type: Temporary Part Time

Number of Positions: One (1)

Department: Community Services Department - Recreation Division

Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Road, Belleville, ON)

Hours: Varied, including days, evenings and weekends, up to 24 hours/week

Employee Group: Non-Union

Salary:$26.66 - $28.84 per hour

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

This role is an integral part of service delivery for citizens and visitors of the City of Belleville.

As a member of the Community Services Department, this position prepares lesson plans, provides quality instruction, evaluation and completes administrative tasks for their assigned programs/classes.

These programs play a vital role in promoting a healthy community by offering facilities, services, and opportunities designed to enhance the overall well-being of our citizens.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct by following all of the Staff Policies and Procedures set out by the Department and Corporation.
  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants by following all rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations.
  • Must be knowledgeable of City programs.
  • Responsible for planning, implementation, instruction and leadership for your designated program delivering a fun and safe experience for participants. Provide program adaptions as needed to meet the needs of all participants.
  • Responsible for on-going evaluations and feedback of the programs to the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Responsible for the completion of attendance and any required paperwork to effectively administrate this program as per the Department Procedures.
  • Assume the responsibility for assessing and responding in an emergency situation and completing the necessary reports.
  • Provide the participants with excellent customer service including management of conflict through effective problem solving and communication skills.
  • Develop positive and professional relationships with participants. Communicate in a positive, productive and professional manner.
  • Ensure all program areas are properly supplied with equipment, paperwork, and any other supplies that may be required for programs.
  • This position is responsible for keeping any required certifications current.
  • Attend all training and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Communicate professionally, and effectively with the Community Services team, and the general public promoting a high standard of customer service
  • Perform all tasks and responsibilities through the lens of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, ensuring commitment to fairness, representation, accessibility and respect for diverse perspectives and cultures in all aspects of work

EDUCATION/TRAINING/SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid High School Diploma
  • Current Standard First Aid Certification
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (“CRC”) and Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High Five - Principles of Healthy Older Adult certification
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Previous instructing experience in the assigned discipline.
  • Ability to take initiative and complete work in a detail oriented and timely manner.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment with a demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years practicing and leading within the assigned discipline and demographic
