Job summary

TD Securities in Toronto is seeking an experienced Java Developer to help build the next generation of risk computation platforms. The role focuses on microservices, distributed caching, and large-scale data processing to quantify and reduce external exposure in volatile markets.

You will work with Java, Spring Boot, REST/gRPC, Kafka, cloud services, and big data tools while collaborating with global stakeholders to deliver scalable risk solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of Java experience and strong JVM internals knowledge.
• Spring stack experience and microservice development with Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and gRPC endpoints.
• Experience with messaging systems (Kafka preferred).
• Cloud experience: Azure (preferred) or AWS, Google Cloud.
• Proficiency in Python data stack (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, etc.).
• Experience with NoSQL databases, Hadoop, Redis for caching, Big Data streaming (Kafka Streams, Flink, Spring Cloud Stream), and SQL proficiency.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD tools (Maven/Gradle), Jenkins; Agile environment.

Team Description

The Counterparty Credit Risk group at TD Securities is seeking experienced Java Developers to build the next generation of risk computation platforms. The core mission of the applications we build is to help the firm quantify, understand, and reduce our external total exposure in case of adverse market conditions. We operate within a modern and complex area of finance, operating with sophisticated computational models, supporting billions of calculations daily and leveraging Big Data storage for analytics and data distribution.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop our risk applications in line with microservices patterns, distributed caching, and stream processing with a view to scale to hundreds of billions of computations daily
• Architect and develop efficient on-demand pricing solutions
• Deliver large scale P&L and risk impacting projects for the trading and sales function, in line with business growth opportunities and regulatory drives
• Develop tooling and processes to enhance the efficiency of the team

The successful candidate should also demonstrate a strong affinity with the following

• Work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams at TD to solve business and technology challenges
• Provide technical leadership to the group and beyond, adopt a scalability and stability-first approach to design and implementation
• Adopt a client-centric approach in support of our business growth models
• Leverage industry standard DevOps practices and tooling for CI/CD, TDD and build tools

Development Opportunities

• Contribute to the technical direction the future versions of our risk platform
• Develop a deep understanding of securities pricing and risk across different asset classes
• Work in a dynamic environment with direct engagement to global stakeholders

Technical Skills

• 8+ years of Java experience, with a strong understanding of JVM internals
• Experience of the Spring stack and experience in microservice development using Spring Boot
• Experience in designing and integrating with REST APIs, gRPC endpoints
• Experience of messaging technologies (preferably Kafka)
• Experience of Azure (preferable) or AWS, Google Cloud
• In-depth understanding of the Python software development stacks, ecosystems, frameworks and tools such as Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Dask, spaCy, NLTK, sci-kit-learn and PyTorch
• Experience of NoSQL databases, Hadoop, distributed caching (Redis preferable), Big Data streaming technologies (Flink, Kafka Streams, Spring Cloud Stream), experience with RDBMS packages, demonstrable fluency in SQL
• Experience of git, CI/CD toolset (Maven / Gradle), Jenkins, working within an Agile environment

Non-Technical Skills

• Experience in collaborating efficiently within a global team
• Strong communication skills
