Job summary

Trane Technologies in Calgary is seeking an HVAC Controls Engineer to join a world‑leading team delivering building automation and comfort solutions. You will design controls and develop sequences for diverse buildings, review contract documents, and create installation and asbuilt drawings with a smooth transition to service.

Ideal candidates hold an Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related degree, have 5+ years HVAC PM/estimating experience, and possess Windows/MS Office skills.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Engineering Technology or 5+ years HVAC PM/estimating experience.
  • Familiarity with operation and design of HVAC Systems, Building Automation Systems, and/or Temperature Controls.
  • Familiarity with new construction, retrofit, performance contracting, and service PM preferred.
  • Windows OS and Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Experience with drafting/design programs and IT/network integration.

Responsibilities

  • Design building controls using direct digital controls for various building types and automation systems.
  • Review contract documents; proposals, mechanical plans, specs, estimates for automation design.
  • Create installation, submittal, as-built drawings and transition to service.
  • Develop advanced sequences of operations to meet project requirements.
  • Generate Operations and Maintenance Manuals and review equipment submittals.
  • Transition documents to the field.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of Trane Controls products and third-party devices.
  • Assist with cost estimates and support BAS technicians with wiring, programming, commissioning.
  • Work with minimal supervision and guide other engineers.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction by investigating concerns and providing solutions.

Where Is The Work

Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires.


What You Will Do


  • Responsible for building controls design utilizing direct digital controls on a variety of building types, in regard to the electronic comfort control and automation systems.

  • Responsible for obtaining and reviewing contract documents; proposals mechanical plans, specifications, estimates, equipment submittals, etc. for incorporation into the design of an automation system.

  • Responsible for creating installation drawings, submittal drawings, as-built drawings, and transition to service.

  • Responsible for advanced sequences of operations, which meet the project requirements.

  • Generates Operation and Maintenance Manuals, as well as responsible for reviewing contract documents and conducting job surveys. Reviews equipment submittals for incorporation into design.

  • Responsible for transitioning these documents to the field.

  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of Trane Controls products and offerings along with applicable 3rd party devices.

  • May be responsible in the preparation of cost estimates for projects and assists BAS Technicians as required with wiring/programming, electrical terminations, commissioning, graphic development, test and startup.

  • Capability to work with minimal supervision as well as the ability to advise and guide other engineers.

  • Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, communication with staff, providing customer feedback and solutions.


What You Will Bring


  • Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction or Engineering Technology, or other related areas; or Five (5) plus years of experience in the HVAC industry performing project management or estimating roles; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Familiarity with operation and design of HVAC Systems, Building Automation Systems, and/or Temperature Controls required.

  • Familiarity with the concepts of new construction and renovation/retrofit, performance contracting, and service project management preferred.

  • Windows operating system and Microsoft Office product knowledge.

  • Experience with a drafting/ design program is required.Understanding of industry standard protocol and requirements for integration preferred.

  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and network architecture
