Job summary

Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) in Toronto, Ontario, invites applications for the Specialist, Technical Training ADTS. Qualifications

  • 3+ years coordinating and facilitating learning and development programs.
  • Experience delivering technical training in safety-sensitive environments (airport/maintenance).
  • Ability to obtain AVOP D and D/A licenses (minimum 3 years’ experience as D/A AVOP Driver).
  • Ability to become AVOP D Trainer, Train-the-Trainer certifications for safety-related courses.
  • Clean driving record; ability to obtain Transportation Security Clearance.
  • Professional trainer certifications (CTP/CTDP/ATD) considered an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license.

What you can expect from this position:

Reporting to the Manager, ADTS Technical Training, this role involves leading comprehensive technical training programs for ADTS employees across operational, maintenance, classroom, and field-based environments, covering needs assessment, content creation, facilitation, coaching, competency evaluation, and continuous improvement. This includes collaborating with ADTS Health & Safety teams, operational leaders, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to align training with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, safety-sensitive operational needs, and technical competency development, while managing records, compliance, audit readiness, and training effectiveness.

As a Specialist, Technical Training ADTS, you will:
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate practical, classroom-based, and field-based technical training sessions for ADTS employees, leveraging diverse instructional methods and technologies to optimize learning outcomes.
  • Partner with ADTS Health & Safety teams, operational leaders, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to develop, implement, and continuously improve technical training.
  • Develop and implement new training methods and materials to enhance the overall training experience and effectiveness by working closely with learning partners and subject matter experts.
  • Provide ongoing support and resources to ADTS employees, promoting their professional growth through continuous learning opportunities.
  • Identify technical training needs within the department and facilitate the transfer of knowledge by supporting all phases of the training lifecycle, including needs assessment, content development, and delivery.
  • Ensure training objectives are met by reviewing content design, training methodologies, conducting knowledge assessments, evaluating trainee performance and competencies, providing feedback, and recommending development actions.
  • Manage all aspects of training program delivery, including developing training schedules, overseeing content development, conducting TRACA observations, and ensuring data accuracy across Maximo and E-LMS platforms.
  • Document training sessions, maintain accurate training records, ensure compliance with organizational, legislative, and regulatory standards, document safety incidents, observations, and training-related concerns, recommend corrective or preventive actions, evaluate training effectiveness through feedback and metrics, and report on compliance status regularly.
  • Align training initiatives with departmental business strategy through collaboration, continuous improvement action plans, and participation in learning committees, while supporting proactive safety culture, compliance, competency development, and database management.
  • Prepare monthly reports and supporting documents, implement necessary updates, communicate changes to stakeholders, and maintain accurate training records, certifications, due diligence documentation, record retention, and audit-ready compliance records.
  • Address cross-functional training needs by working closely with other airport departments (e.g., operations, maintenance, security). Facilitate coordination and track progress.
  • Incorporate relevant information into training programs and share insights with the team by liaising with external training providers and industry associations to stay informed about industry trends and updates.
  • Coach and mentor trainees during technical training activities, provide practical feedback, and support development actions that strengthen operational competency and safe work practices.

This unionized position is classified at the Band 7 level, with an hourly wage rate of $47.35 based on a 40 hour work week. A test will be administered as part of the competitive process.

This is the role for you, if you have:
  • 3+ years’ experience coordinating and facilitating learning & development programs.
  • Experience supporting or delivering technical training within an airport, maintenance, industrial, municipal, construction, utilities, transportation, or other safety-sensitive operational environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain AVOP D and D/A licenses (minimum 3 years’ experience as D/A AVOP Driver required for Trainer certification).
  • Ability to be a certified AVOP D Trainer, including the ability to obtain and maintain trainer status and Train-the-Trainer certifications for safety-related courses such as Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform (AWP), Bucket Truck, Forklift, and Scaffolding.
  • Clear record with no active infractions required to obtain and maintain a ‘Trainer Status’ (e.g. no major infractions for the last 5 years, no major infraction warning on record for the last 5 years, no accumulative warnings/infractions on record).
  • Additional certification as a professional trainer or facilitator or a certified CTP, CTDP or ATD will be considered an asset.
  • Valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:
  • Ability to be a certified AVOP D Trainer, including the ability to obtain and maintain trainer status and Train-the-Trainer certifications for safety-related courses such as, but not limited to, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform (AWP), Bucket Truck, Forklift, and Scaffolding.
  • Ability to work airside and in operational and maintenance environments, including safety-sensitive settings with exposure to noise, aircraft and equipment fumes, inclement weather, varying temperatures, heights, and restricted spaces.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and adapt training schedules to support operational training delivery across varying shifts and crews.
  • Basic understanding of Adult Learning Principles.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems and authoring tools such as Storyline 360, Rise etc.
  • Proficiency in using learning management systems (LMS) to track training programs.
  • Strong aptitude for technology with ability to build web-based training.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and flexibility to work under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of work-order allocation tools and software like Maximo.
  • Ability to assimilate data and derive the next steps based on data trends.
  • Knowledge of eLMS integration with other enterprise systems.
  • Proficient in the English language including use of Canadian English, editing; grammar; sentence structure; business writing and use of business templates.
  • Strong understanding of airport operations, maintenance and trades environments, and safety-sensitive technical training settings, with the ability to translate technical procedures, SOPs, equipment requirements, regulatory obligations, and subject-matter expert knowledge into practical training materials, job aids, assessments, and competency-based learning solutions.
  • In depth knowledge of the AVOP program.
