Qualifications

  • Proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders and manage cross-functional initiatives.
  • Understanding of emerging energy technologies and lower-carbon pathways.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate lower-carbon and new venture opportunities via market research, business case development, financial modeling, and strategic analysis.
  • Assess commercial viability, technical readiness, and strategic fit of opportunities.
  • Conduct market, competitor, customer, and technology intelligence to define trends and opportunities.
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative analyses to support executive decision-making on sustainability and venture growth.
  • Support sustainability reporting, data collection, validation, and communication of performance information.
  • Monitor evolving sustainability disclosure frameworks, regulatory developments, and stakeholder expectations.

Your Opportunity

This role sits at the intersection of sustainability, corporate strategy, market intelligence, venture identification and development, and business growth. You will help shape Capital Power's long‑term strategic direction by evaluating emerging opportunities, assessing evolving market dynamics, supporting sustainability disclosures and direction, and providing critical insights on the macroeconomic and the broader energy landscape. Working closely with teams throughout the organization as well as external partners, you will support the identification, evaluation, and advancement of lower‑carbon and growth opportunities while helping ensure Capital Power's sustainability performance, reporting, and strategic positioning continue to create long‑term value. The successful candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with business acumen and curiosity, translating complex information into clear, decision‑ready insights for senior leadership. From evaluating emerging technologies and market trends, to supporting joint venture governance and sustainability disclosures, to assessing customer needs and future growth pathways, this role offers the opportunity to influence key pillars within the Energy markets and Low Carbon Solutions and Ventures team.

What You’ll Do
  • Evaluate lower‑carbon and new venture opportunities through market research, business case development, financial modeling, and strategic analysis.
  • Assess the commercial viability, technical readiness, scalability, risks, and strategic fit of emerging opportunities.
  • Conduct market, competitor, customer, and technology intelligence to identify trends, opportunities, barriers, and emerging areas to define strategic interest.
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative analyses that support executive decision‑making related to sustainability, low‑carbon solutions, and venture growth opportunities.
  • Support Capital Power's sustainability reporting and disclosure obligations, including the collection, analysis, validation, and communication of sustainability performance information.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving sustainability reporting requirements, climate‑related disclosure frameworks, regulatory developments, and stakeholder expectations, providing recommendations on business implications.
  • Support governance, performance tracking, and reporting requirements for strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and low‑carbon development initiatives.
  • Assess sustainability‑related risks and opportunities and support integration with enterprise risk management, strategic planning, and business performance processes.
  • Support policy and stakeholder engagement activities through research, analysis, and strategic insights that help inform Capital Power's external positioning and long‑term objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainability, low‑carbon solutions, and venture strategies that enhance competitiveness, customer value, long‑term growth, and enterprise resilience.
What You Bring to the Role
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, advanced degree considered an asset.
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience in energy generation, sustainability, strategy, venture development, consulting, or commercial analysis.
  • Experience developing business cases, financial models, and strategic recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with senior stakeholders and manage cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Understanding of emerging energy technologies and lower carbon pathways.
