About the role

Join the Insurance and Securitization Team in the Specialist, risk position. In this role, you will assess and interpret data to determine risk concentration and other indicators of risk, ensure the Insurance Sector operations and technology are aligned to CMHC’s Risk Management Framework, review and develop the Operational risk 1B teams risk and control self-assessment schedules, review their findings and recommends actions to fill any observed gaps. This position also promotes a culture of risk awareness and provides training in risk management, including internal and external control procedures and risk mitigation practices.

What you’ll do:

  • Plan and execute on risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) activities and monitoring by working closely with applicable Insurance business line personnel.
  • Ensure that regulations and requirements, as recommended by the Office of the Superintendent for Financial Institutions (OSFI) are assessed and applied as needed within the Insurance businesses.
  • Develop action plans that address oversight and/or RCSA findings and gaps and monitor progress against action plans.
  • Monitor and assess access management protocols, ensure appropriate segregation of duties is maintained and support business owned business requirements (BRD) control testing.
  • Identify the risk quantification and assess controls in place to mitigate risks targeted assessments.
  • Provide risk management expertise for the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of business systems, technologies and processes.
  • Evaluate opportunities for new risk management technologies, process enhancement, education and awareness or other related services and provide recommendations.
  • Plan and execute risk assessments and control testing and risk event reporting.


What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field such as information technology, information security and information management.
  • Demonstrated experience with IT/Network operations and knowledge of security technologies such as identity management, computer forensics, application security and network security technologies.
  • A minimum of five years of prior relevant experience in risk management and/or Information Technology disciplines.
  • Knowledge of operational risk management categories, risk management policy development and knowledge of internal control concepts and frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills and an ability to undertake and complete multiple, concurrent tasks.
  • Strong team building skills to coordinate with related operations to effectively plan and conduct audits and implement findings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver professional advice or direction or present opinions and recommendations.
