Job description

We are hiring a full-time, permanent Specialist, Regulatory Compliance position working out of Edmonton, AB.

As the Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you are accountable for monitoring and overseeing EPCOR Transmission’s Reliability Standards Compliance Program. This includes providing compliance advisory and project management services to various internal stakeholders regarding regulatory compliance regulations and requirements related to Alberta Reliability Standards. You will stay current on standards and compliance requirements for all operating facilities and contribute to due diligence processes for business development opportunities. The role also involves reviewing and assessing compliance evidence for completeness and formatting, considering evidence storage and audit preparation. Additionally, you will contribute to policy initiatives by leading or participating as a subject matter expert.

This position reports to and works closely with the Transmission Senior Manager, Integrated Planning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading EPCOR Distribution & Transmission Inc. (EDTI) Transmission’s Reliability Standards Compliance Program.
  • Developing and modifying compliance programs for various standards, working with internal stakeholders for implementation, and providing recommendations on budgeting and resourcing.
  • Collaborating with EPCOR Regulatory and subject matter experts to develop EDTI Transmission’s annual Corporate Compliance Program, promoting compliance ownership among employees.
  • Understanding EPCOR’s strategy within EDTI and throughout regulatory compliance, and leading related programs.
  • Reviewing reliability standards (CIP, COM, FAC, PRC, etc.) to determine applicability to current or potential sites.
  • Assessing how revisions to standards impact the Transmission Long Term Plan.
  • Supporting EPCOR Regulatory’s Dynamic Compliance Risk process, performing gap analyses, and taking corrective actions.
  • Developing communication and training plans, and leading training to raise awareness of non-compliance risks.
  • Advising Operations on current rules and standards, and guiding supporting teams on compliance implementation impacts.
  • Leading investigations into non-compliance events, conducting root cause analysis, and developing mitigation plans.
  • Developing risk mitigation strategies, coaching stakeholders, and maintaining compliance metrics and dashboards.

Qualifications for success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business management, or engineering; a Professional Engineer designation is an asset.
  • 10+ years of experience in the energy sector.
  • 3+ years in a regulatory compliance role.
  • Experience with assurance work, audits, reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Project management experience is an asset.

You should possess a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. You are organized, adaptable, and take pride in your work.
