Job summary

Ontario Health is seeking a detail-oriented Privacy Specialist to strengthen privacy practices across province-wide health initiatives. You will provide practical privacy advice, support privacy operations, and help protect personal health information while enabling improvements across Ontario’s health system.

You will build relationships with stakeholders, embed privacy considerations from planning to implementation, and contribute to a culture of privacy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health care, health informatics, public or business administration or equivalent.
  • 1 year of relevant privacy experience.
  • Certified privacy (CIPP/C) and/or security cert preferred.
  • Experience with privacy impact assessments and operational privacy support.

Responsibilities

  • Research and update privacy policies, procedures, and guidance aligned with Ontario privacy law.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and translate into practical program guidance.
  • Support privacy impact assessments for small to medium initiatives.
  • Assist investigations, access requests, consent management and inquiries.
  • Provide timely privacy advisory support to business and project teams.

Here is what you will be doing:

Ontario Health is looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Privacy Specialist to help strengthen privacy practices across innovative, province-wide health initiatives. In this role, you will provide practical privacy advice, support privacy operations, and contribute to a program that protects personal health information while enabling meaningful improvements across Ontario’s health system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, update, and support privacy policies, procedures, and guidance to align with applicable Ontario privacy legislation.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, assess impacts, and help translate requirements into practical program advice.
  • Support privacy impact assessments for small to medium-complex initiatives by identifying privacy requirements, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of privacy incidents, inquiries, access requests, consent management requests, complaints, appeals, and other privacy matters.
  • Provide timely privacy advisory support to business teams, project teams, and partners, escalating complex matters where appropriate.
  • Participate as a privacy subject matter expert on projects and initiatives, helping embed privacy considerations from planning through implementation.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to foster awareness, accountability, and a culture of privacy.
  • Support privacy program improvements, including process enhancements, training development, and activities that strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of the Privacy Office.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in health care, health informatics, public or business administration or another relevant field is preferred or equivalent education/experience.
  • 1 year of relevant privacy experience.
  • Recognized privacy (CIPP/C) and/or security certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting privacy impact assessments and providing operational privacy support, preferably within the health, public sector, and/or IT environments, is considered a strong asset.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of access and privacy requirements and practices, preferably related to the health and public sectors.
  • Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA).
  • Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
  • Thorough understanding of “privacy-by-design” and best practices.
  • Experience with conducting and/or providing oversight for privacy impact assessments including developing privacy requirements, risk mitigation plans, corporate policies and developing and/or delivering training content.
  • Knowledge of technology architecture and infrastructure, digital health solutions and services, enterprise and corporate IT including information and cyber security preferred.
  • Working knowledge of digital health technologies and information security industry standards.
  • Excel in a fast-paced and project focused environment.
  • Exceptional analytic and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
