Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing management of acute and chronic systemic conditions.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging.
  • Prescribe and administer medications and therapies.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and follow-up plans.
  • Provide specialist consultations and medical opinions to referring physicians.
  • Perform procedures where credentialed and authorized.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as required.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses and options.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comply with laws, regulations and standards of the provincial College.
  • Participate in quality assurance and continuing professional development.

Education

Medical degree from a recognized medical school

Position Summary:

The Specialist Physician (Internal Medicine) is responsible for providing specialized medical services to adult patients, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of complex medical conditions. The Physician delivers care in outpatient clinical settings and, where authorized, hospital and procedural environments, in accordance with provincial legislation, College standards, and evidence-based medical practice. Possession of an additional medical subspecialty is considered a significant asset.

What You’ll Do:
  • Examine patients and obtain comprehensive medical histories to assess physical and mental health status.
  • Diagnose diseases, disorders, and conditions within the scope of internal medicine and any applicable subspecialty area.
  • Provide ongoing management and treatment of acute and chronic systemic medical conditions.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory investigations, imaging studies, and relevant diagnostic imaging.
  • Prescribe and administer medications and other therapeutic treatments in accordance with accepted medical practice.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and follow-up plans.
  • Provide specialist consultations and medical opinions to referring physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures relevant to the physician’s specific training and scope of practice, where credentialed and authorized by hospital or clinic privileges.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as required.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with legal, regulatory, and professional standards.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, risks, and preventive care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including primary care providers, other specialists, and allied health professionals.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards of the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons.
  • Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and continuing professional development activities.
