Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We are looking for enthusiastic pharmacists to join our Preparative Services team (aseptic preparation and dispensing).

You should have a Masters’ degree in pharmacy, successful completion of pre-registration experience and exam and be a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council. Continuous professional development is encouraged and supported.

You will provide specialist aseptic dispensing pharmaceutical services to ensure the safe, appropriate and cost-effective provision of medicines and professional advice in line with current legislation and local and national policies.

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital & Royal Hospital for Children

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK and home to major specialist services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery, with state-of-the-art Critical Care, Theatre and Diagnostic Services. The Royal Hospital for Children is adjoined to the adult hospital and has 244 paediatric beds with a further 12 neonatal beds in the maternity unit. This hospital provides a large number of specialist services to the West of Scotland and the wider population of Scotland in addition to a full range of secondary care services including cardiology and cardiac surgery, renal and bone marrow transplantation. For a number of these services, the children’s hospital is recognised as the sole provider in Scotland. QEUH aseptic works closely with clinical research and has dispensed products for some first in UK clinical trials.

The pharmacy department in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is a state of the art; purpose-built facility that makes use of modern technologies including automated aseptic compounders.

The post holder will assume professional responsibility for the accurate, legible and legal prescribing of medicines for patients in QEUH/RHC and provide a key role in the professional release of aseptically prepared injectable medicines.

This is an exciting time to join the pharmacy team at QEUH & RHC hospitals as we continue to develop new ways to provide pharmacy services in line with Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care – A Strategy for Scotland.

The post holder will work 5 days Monday to Friday and will be required to participate in weekend working, Public Holiday working and out of hours on call service.

New Victoria Hospital Pharmacy/Beatson WoSCC Pharmacy

This post is based at New Victoria Hospital with some rotation/ cover to the Beatson WoSCC Pharmacy.

The New Victoria Hospital pharmacy and Beatson WoSCC Pharmacy cover the aseptic preparation and dispensing of IV SACT plus supply of oral SACT medicines including supportive medicines. You will be part of the Preparative Services team providing high quality pharmaceutical care to our patients.

These aseptic preparation units produce in total over 51,000 items per year. Your duties will include formulation of chemotherapy, facilitating set-up of clinical trials, final release of aseptically prepared items, oral SACT medicine dispensary cover and education and training of Pharmacists rotating through the Aseptic unit.

This is a full-time post, 37 hours per week which will be worked Monday-Friday 8:45am-5pm. The post includes weekend working on a rota basis as well as participation in the on-call and public holiday rotas
