Job summary

CNIB in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a mission-driven Specialist, Communications and Community Outreach. The role focuses on creating accessible, inclusive communities for people with low vision and Deafblind, driving advocacy and program delivery across the region.

You will develop regional communications plans, produce multimedia stories, and manage earned media while collaborating with diverse partners and communities. A strong background in communications and community outreach is essential.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in communications, marketing or journalism.
• Minimum 5–7 years of relevant work experience.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, execute and implement regional communications plans in support of participant needs with innovative programs and advocacy.
• Develop educational, marketing and communications opportunities including Indigenous outreach strategies.
• Produce and share multimedia stories featuring participants/clients, volunteers, and partners in accessible formats for Owned Media and Shared Media.
• Manage Earned Media, both proactive and reactive opportunities to support participants/clients.

We're looking for a mission-driven Specialist, Communications and Community Outreach who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.

Your Impact at CNIB

• The Specialist, Communications and Community Outreach is responsible for the development, execution and implementation of regional communications plans in support of participant/client needs with innovative programs and powerful advocacy.
• Based on awareness of client needs, develops educational, marketing and communications opportunities. This would include Indigenous outreach strategies for Treaty No. 6, Treaty No. 7 and Métis Nation.To be done in support of the regional operating plan and communicates directly with people who are blind, partially sighted, or Deafblind to deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy.
• Produce and share multimedia stories featuring participants/clients, volunteers, and partners in accessible formats forOwned Media (e.g., blogs, eblasts, videos, websites) and Shared Media(e.g., social media) This would be done to strategically promote CNIB programs and services across our region.
• Manages Earned Media, both proactive and reactive opportunities to support participant/clients.

Who you are:

Education and Experience

• Post-secondary education in communications, marketing or journalism.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

• Minimum 5–7 years of relevant work experience.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with experience writing for a variety of audiences.
• A strong storyteller with exceptional editing skills
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Proven ability to manage multi-faceted projects.
• Creative with an ability to develop and execute innovative ideas.
• Strong knowledge of social media engagement platforms and strategies
• Professional attitude, results oriented, self-directed, and flexible.
• Excellent diplomacy, leadership and conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrates initiative, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office.
• Working knowledge of relevant design, video and audio editing software, including InDesign, Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.
• Knowledge of CP Style is an asset.
• Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
• Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
