Provides administrative and organizational support for raising funds and event support to advance women, girls and gender diverse individuals in Hamilton. The Canada Summer Jobs – Special Events Organizer supports YWCA Hamilton’s signature event Walk a Mile in Their Shoes and related community Walk a Mile Events with planning, outreach, day-of support, and post-event communications. The Canada Summer Jobs - Fundraising Support will receive guidance and support from the Manager of Donor Stewardship and works closely with the Events and Community Fundraising Specialist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Tracks walker registrations and keeps Manager updated on progress;
  2. Supports engaging volunteers in YWCA Hamilton's mission and activities;
  3. Supports community outreach by identifying and engaging new potential walkers and reengaging past event participants;
  4. Engages team captains and registered walkers by answering questions, encouraging fundraising, and celebrating milestones;
  5. Supports day-of event execution with assigned responsibilities and works collaboratively with members of the Philanthropy department;
  6. Supports rollout of new personal fundraising pages campaign and documents key processes for implementation;
  7. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures;
  8. Maintains accurate files electronically and in hardcopy to ensure responsible administrative records and corporate memory;
  9. Maintains high level of confidentiality/privacy when working with client information;
  10. Works safely and reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
  11. Supports YWCA Hamilton’s mission, vision and values;
  12. Performs other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works 35 hours per week;
  • Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort; lifting up to 50lbs, bending and stooping;
  • Hybrid work environment with both remote and in-person at MacNab location as well as community events;
  • Occasional evening and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

  1. Enrolled in or completion of a 2-year college diploma program in fundraising, business, social services, public relations, or marketing or equivalent;
  2. Minimum 2 years’ experience in inventory management, retail, and/or customer service;
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  4. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks;
  5. Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning;
  6. Professional or volunteer experience in the non-profit sector with fundraising and/or special events experience is an asset;
  7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;
  8. Must provide a current Criminal record Judicial Matters or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  9. Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset;
  10. Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for several hours at a time.
