SCOPE:
The City of Surrey is seeking an experienced Special Events Marketing Coordinator (SEMC). In this role you will be responsible for coordinating the production of all graphic and print marketing materials, as well as all signage materials for Surrey’s major events and festivals including–but not limited to–Party for the Planet, Surrey Canada Day, Surrey Fusion Festival and Surrey Tree Lighting Festival. This role will also support with implementing media sponsorships, developing and running surveys, and conducting analysis of marketing strategies, as well as overall event production as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary areas of focus will include:
- Oversee the development of graphic assets for event marketing campaigns.
- Oversee the development of on-site signage at events and festivals, including wayfinding, informational and activity-based signage, as well as stage scrims.
- Coordinate small and large format printing of marketing materials and signage.
- Assist with media sponsorships as required for radio, tv, digital and print.
- Lead contractors to implement event and festival signage installations.
- Work with marketing team to develop vision for brand look and feel of festival, key messaging and communication strategies.
- Lead development and implementation of surveys (onsite and post-event via social media) and data analysis of findings.
- Write media releases and advisories for festivals and events.
- Update event websites as required.
- Create wrap reports to analyse event successes and opportunities for growth.
- Work on-site at festivals and events during set up, event hours and takedown as required.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for events as required.
- Assist in the overall production of events with various duties (e.g., site marking, administration).
- The SEMC must also understand the importance of adhering to brand guidelines for all marketing materials (digital, print and on-site signage). Representing the City of Surrey to the public, professional colleagues and outside agencies, the SEMC will sit on various committees both internally and externally and will be required to work a flexible, self-directed schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidates will have:
- Graduation from a recognized university or college level program.
- Three years of progressively responsible experience including supervision.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Characterized by considerable independence of judgment and use of initiative, work at this level requires:
- Highly developed time management and organization skills.
- Experience coordinating graphic design production and knowledge of best practices related to design.
- The ability to advise staff of effective marketing, media, and promotional techniques.
- Ability to supervise contracted staff.
- Experience working closely with graphic designers, videographers and photographers.
- Highly developed communications and business writing skills.
- Strong oral communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of media sponsorship approaches and best practices.
- Experience in event and festival marketing.
- Experience developing surveys or other forms of engagement and data analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative.
- Passion for music, culture and community events and festivals is considered an asset.
