Job description

Position Information

This position is a 1.0 FTE position (184 days), with a starting salary based on education and experience. It is fully benefit-eligible. Please review the full contract and benefits here. Specific openings for the upcoming school year are not yet known; the pool will be used by schools with vacancies for interviews and hiring decisions.

Nature of Work

Incumbents teach students in assigned disciplines in classrooms, small groups, or at home. Responsibilities include adapting teaching methods and materials to meet students' needs, developing individualized educational plans, establishing and enforcing behavior rules, administering developmental tests, and collaborating with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, or administrators to address behavioral or academic issues.

Typical Class Responsibilities
  1. Implement and deliver instructional activities; monitor and assess student progress; develop and administer tests; grade work; provide feedback.
  2. Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum; establish learning objectives; prepare lesson plans; select and adapt instructional resources for diverse student needs.
  3. Manage student behavior through rules, discipline procedures, and interventions.
  4. Maintain accurate student records, develop Individualized Educational Plans, and ensure student rights are protected.
  5. Participate in meetings such as parent conferences, staff meetings, and professional development.
  6. Perform related duties, including correspondence, inquiries, and supervision of education assistants.
Training and Experience Requirements

Minimum of a bachelor's degree and a license or eligibility to obtain one from the Minnesota PELSB in Emotional Behavior Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, or Developmental Cognitive Disabilities.

Knowledge Requirements
  • Learning theories, curriculum development, assessment methods, behavior management, classroom management, instructional practices, laws and regulations, recordkeeping, and software applications.
Skill Requirements
  • Lesson development, student assessment, resource utilization, behavior management, recordkeeping, legal compliance, report preparation, and communication skills.
Physical Requirements

Includes climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing. Light Work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.

Special Education Profile

Supports students from early childhood to age 21 with various disabilities. Classrooms are structured and supported by trained assistants, with a collaborative team of specialists.
