Job description

Transdev Canada is hiring Spare Transit Operators for our Yellowknife location.

As a Spare Transit Operator, you will be responsible for transporting passengers on public transit vehicles like buses, ensuring passenger safety and comfort.

Your Role

1. Operate transit vehicles safely along assigned routes in compliance with traffic laws and Transdev policies.
2. Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and report defects promptly.
3. Greet and assist passengers courteously, including individuals with disabilities or mobility issues.
4. Provide route, schedule, and fare information to passengers as needed.
5. Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally, escalating to supervisors when required.
6. Maintain punctuality and adherence to schedules while ensuring safe driving.
7. Communicate delays or service interruptions to dispatch immediately.
8. Monitor passenger behavior and enforce safety rules on board to ensure safety.
9. Report incidents, accidents, or emergencies following company protocol.
10. Use onboard radios to communicate with operations and dispatch staff.
11. Collect fares as per policy and issue transfers or passes when applicable.
12. Monitor fare evasion and report repeated issues to supervisors.
13. Complete daily logs, mileage sheets, and incident reports accurately.
14. Report mechanical issues or maintenance needs through the appropriate channels.
15. Keep assigned vehicle clean and presentable during the shift.
16. Report vandalism or cleanliness issues to maintenance promptly.
17. Comply with all relevant transportation policies and regulations.
18. Attend safety briefings, training sessions, and certifications (e.g., Class 2 with S endorsement).
19. Display professionalism at all times as a representative of Transdev Yellowknife.
20. Support community events or rerouted service during emergencies or special transit operations.

Your Profile

• Valid Class 2 or Class 1 Driver’s License with Air Brake and S endorsement.
• Clean driving record with no major infractions in the past 3 years.
• Minimum 1 year of professional driving experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Yellowknife roadways is an advantage.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Physically fit to operate a bus and assist passengers.
• Good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Punctual and reliable, able to follow schedules.
• Flexible working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Understanding of Workplace Safety and Health Act regulations.
• Ability to pass a vulnerable sector check and drug/alcohol testing.
