Transdev Canada is hiring Spare Transit Operators for our Yellowknife location.
As a Spare Transit Operator, you will be responsible for transporting passengers on public transit vehicles like buses, ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
Your Role
- Operate transit vehicles safely along assigned routes in compliance with traffic laws and Transdev policies.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and report defects promptly.
- Greet and assist passengers courteously, including individuals with disabilities or mobility issues.
- Provide route, schedule, and fare information to passengers as needed.
- Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally, escalating to supervisors when required.
- Maintain punctuality and adherence to schedules while ensuring safe driving.
- Communicate delays or service interruptions to dispatch immediately.
- Monitor passenger behavior and enforce safety rules on board to ensure safety.
- Report incidents, accidents, or emergencies following company protocol.
- Use onboard radios to communicate with operations and dispatch staff.
- Collect fares as per policy and issue transfers or passes when applicable.
- Monitor fare evasion and report repeated issues to supervisors.
- Complete daily logs, mileage sheets, and incident reports accurately.
- Report mechanical issues or maintenance needs through the appropriate channels.
- Keep assigned vehicle clean and presentable during the shift.
- Report vandalism or cleanliness issues to maintenance promptly.
- Comply with all relevant transportation policies and regulations.
- Attend safety briefings, training sessions, and certifications (e.g., Class 2 with S endorsement).
- Display professionalism at all times as a representative of Transdev Yellowknife.
- Support community events or rerouted service during emergencies or special transit operations.

Your Profile
- Valid Class 2 or Class 1 Driver’s License with Air Brake and S endorsement.
- Clean driving record with no major infractions in the past 3 years.
- Minimum 1 year of professional driving experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Yellowknife roadways is an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Physically fit to operate a bus and assist passengers.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Punctual and reliable, able to follow schedules.
- Flexible working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Understanding of Workplace Safety and Health Act regulations.
- Ability to pass a vulnerable sector check and drug/alcohol testing.
