Job summary

Emera Internal Audit in Halifax, NS seeks a SOX Auditor to build expertise in internal controls over financial reporting within a large, complex organization. This early career role offers exposure to NI 52-109 and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance across Emera's Canadian and U.S. affiliates.

You will work with the enterprise Internal Audit team and process owners to test controls, document testing, and discuss findings, supporting remediation and ongoing assurance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce or related discipline.
• Interest in pursuing a relevant professional designation (CPA).
• Experience or exposure to internal controls, financial reporting, SOX compliance, internal audit or external audit through education, internships or work experience.
• Understanding of financial reporting processes and key business process controls is an asset.
• Strong analytical, communication and relationship-building skills.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities.
• Curious, collaborative and comfortable working in a changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Complete walkthroughs of key business processes to understand risks, controls and changes in the control environment
• Test the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting
• Prepare clear, accurate documentation that supports testing performed and conclusions reached
• Assist in identifying and discussing control deficiencies with management and external auditors.
• Monitor remediation activities and perform testing to validate corrective actions
• Complete assigned work within established budgets and timelines
• Identify opportunities to strengthen controls and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of SOX testing

The Emera Internal Audit team is seeking a SOX Auditor. This is an early career opportunity to build expertise in internal controls over financial reporting and regulatory compliance within a large, complex organization.

You will work with the enterprise Internal Audit team and business process owners across Emera's affiliates in Canada and the United States. This role supports compliance with National Instrument 52-109 and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements through testing and evaluation of internal controls over financial reporting.

As a SOX Auditor, you will:
