Accountability Objective

Under the direction of the Dining Services Manager, you will be responsible for food preparation and service to residents and guests, ensuring meals are attractive, nutritious, and compliant with standards and regulations. You will also ensure all dietary requirements are met when preparing meals and snacks.

Background/Qualifications
  • Minimum Grade 12 education required.
  • Completion of Cook’s Journeyman papers or equivalent, Food and Beverage course, and current membership in the Food Service Supervisor’s Association are required.
  • At least two years of experience in volume food preparation at a Cook I or Cook II level, or supervision in a hotel, restaurant, or institutional setting, preferred.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with computerized ordering systems and dietary software.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in and contribute to the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
  • Assist in planning nutritious menus in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide and residents’ dietary needs.
  • Prepare and serve food following sanitation and safety standards, the menu, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Supervise ordering and distribution of meals, ensuring proper storage and inventory control.
  • Assist with staff training, orientation, and participation in staff meetings.
  • Manage and monitor food samples, temperature records, and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with residents and staff to address concerns and ensure satisfaction with food services.
  • Support budget preparation, control, and other related duties as delegated by the Dining Services Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and legislative requirements, including hazard reporting and participation in safety drills.
