Job Description

Located at a world-class Horizon North camp facility, this position operates on a 20 days on, 10 days off schedule, with 11-12 hour workdays. Transportation is provided from a designated pickup point.

The Sous Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, manages food orders, plans menus, assists with food preparation and service, trains staff, and ensures compliance with Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

This role is safety-sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing and a fitness assessment prior to employment.


Your Responsibilities

  • Design and serve high-quality rotational menus.
  • Supervise kitchen staff, ensuring productivity and adherence to policies, safety, and quality standards.
  • Train, develop, and mentor team members.
  • Ensure all food preparation complies with FOODSAFE and HACCP standards and safety guidelines.
  • Manage resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Provide personable and professional service to clients and staff.
  • Consider dietary restrictions, allergies, vegan, and vegetarian options in meal planning.
  • Conduct bi-weekly inventory checks.
  • Support all kitchen roles to ensure timely meal service and cleanliness standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate required.
  • SafeCheck advanced food safety or HACCP certification.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in hospitality/food service.
  • At least 10 years as a Chef in hotels, resorts, restaurants, or remote lodges, with expertise in international and domestic cuisines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, GFS, Outlook.
  • Experience with menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control.
  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge across kitchen areas: Hot, Cold, Pastry/Bakery, Butchery, and Banquets.
  • Effective leadership skills, positive personality, and good listening abilities.
