The Opportunity

This Sound / Omni Tech position will have a background, along with basic competencies in the remaining departments. The job tasks may include assisting across other technical areas depending on the nature of the production, including lighting, staging, sound, and video departments. The Sound / Omni Tech provides the operational support required for the delivery of Performing Arts Programs and events on campus.

Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Production Manager, Performing Arts, the Sound / Omni Tech will support this summer's events, including National Indigenous Peoples History Month and the Banff Summer Arts Festival. Key responsibilities include :

  • Supporting the integration of department-wide activities and supporting coordination of specialized activities
  • Executing all tasks with attention to safety procedures
  • Providing technical production support for music concerts and other productions including dance, opera, and theatre
  • Supporting live music performances such as string quartets, orchestras, chamber music, new music, rock, pop, etc.
  • Liaising with staff to ensure effective support for artistic clients, participants, and faculty
  • Assisting with live audio setups, including microphone setup and troubleshooting
  • Assisting with wireless microphone system setups and mic’ing performers
  • Ensuring shows run smoothly by collaborating with technical crews

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Theatre Practitioner Level 2 : minimum 3 years’ experience in a Theatre or Performing Arts production environment
  • Theatre Practitioner Level 3 : minimum 5 years’ experience in a Theatre or Performing Arts production environment
  • Formal theatre education completion
  • Experience supporting live music preferred
  • Experience working in a fly house is an asset
  • Proficiency in computer and multimedia equipment operation
  • Knowledge of theatre theories and practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to work under tight, changing timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of industry trends, current techniques, materials, and health and safety standards
  • Ability to apply professional theatre techniques to support performing arts

Special Requirements

  • This is a unionized, hourly position under CUPE 4318, with a 500-hour probationary period.
  • Level 2 pay : $22.59 - $25.85 / hour, up to 40 hours / week on a rotating schedule.
  • Level 3 pay : $27.17 - $31.51 / hour, up to 40 hours / week on a rotating schedule.
  • This is a term position until July 26, 2028.
