A local charity organization in Calgary is seeking a Sort Associate to provide excellent customer service and sort donations. The ideal candidate has Grade 12 education, strong organizational skills, and the ability to lift up to 50lbs. This role offers weekend shifts from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Qualifications

Job description

Reporting to the Sort Manager, the Sort Associate is responsible for providing friendly and courteous service to customers, donors and volunteers. This position works in a fast-paced environment that involves driving sales through engagement of customers, suggestive selling, and sharing product knowledge.

We are looking for someone primarily with weekend availability - 7:30am-4:00pm

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sorting & Storing
    • Efficiently and consistently sort and grade previously rough-sorted donations to determine the quality and most appropriate path for each item (ex: for thrift stores, Twice New e-commerce, More Store by WINS, seasonal, recycle, or disposal)
    • Refine sorted goods into specific product categories (ex: style, item type, etc.) and load into bins for holding/storage
    • Share expertise as required with other staff and volunteers regarding the quality of donations (grading)
  • Recycle
    • Recognize product suitable for recycle, salvaging all possible product to divert it from landfill, reduce WINS’s environmental imprint and build WINS recycle revenue
  • Retail & E-commerce
    • Supply the More Store by WINS with product from the sort area; remove dated product from the More Store and divert to it to recycle
    • Process sales transactions as point of sale (POS) in an accurate and efficient manner
    • Provide friendly, positive, professional service to customers of the More Store by WINS
    • Support Twice New e-commerce with ensuring suitable product availability from donations
  • Teamwork
    • Act as an ambassador for WINS both on and off the job
    • Maintain excellent donor, employee, and volunteer relations through positive, kind, and professional interactions with others
    • Engage and support individual and corporate group volunteers to ensure that their experience is fun and rewarding
    • Maintain ongoing communication with management on any issues or concerns
  • Health & Safety and Industrial Hygiene
    • Positively engage in and comply with all WINS health & safety practices, procedures, and policies
    • Maintain a safe working area for all employees, volunteers, clients, and customers by ensuring workstations and aisles are clean, tidy, and clear of clutter
    • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education
  • Grade 12 education, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience
Personal/ Professional Attributes
  • An understanding of and affinity for the WINS brand, mission, and role with our clients, customers, volunteers, donors, and community
  • Solid organization skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills including proficiency in verbal and written English
  • Basic numeracy is required to keep counts and operate point of sale equipment
  • A welcoming and empathetic demeanor with an ability to build and maintain positive relationships with other employees and individual & corporate volunteers
  • Excellent customer service
  • Flexibility to comply with a work schedule with shifts throughout the week
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to correctly and safely lift a minimum of 50lbs/23kg individually, and 100lbs/45kg as part of a team
  • Must be work-ready with CSA approved steel-toed safety boots
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
