Job summary

Big Country Drilling in Alberta is seeking multiple full-time Sonic Drillers to operate drilling rigs and oversee field operations in Strathmore and Fort McMurray. You will monitor progress, perform pre-drilling checks, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while coordinating with the crew.

The position emphasizes hands-on drilling, mentorship, and documentation. A valid oilfield ticket and a driver’s license with a clean abstract are preferred, and willingness to travel is required.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience as a driller in oil and gas, core hole drilling preferred.
• Valid driver's license with clean abstract; Class 3 or Class 1 preferred.
• Proven knowledge of drilling equipment, safety procedures, and supervision.
• Willingness to travel as required by the job.

Responsibilities

• Operate drilling equipment (rotary drills, mud pumps, hoisting) following procedures and safety guidelines.
• Monitor drilling progress and adjust for efficiency and productivity.
• Perform pre-drilling checks and inspections; report malfunctions to supervisor.
• Lead setup and dismantling of drilling rigs; supervise crew and mentor teammates.
• Conduct routine maintenance on drilling equipment (lubrication, filters, minor repairs).
• Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and inventory.
• Ensure adherence to safety, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Communicate effectively with team members and clients to ensure smooth workflow.
• Manage paperwork and administrative tasks related to drilling operations.

We are looking for multiple full-time Sonic Drillers to join our team in Strathmore and Fort McMurray, AB.

Your primary responsibility will be to operate drilling machinery and equipment while overseeing drilling operations. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Operating drilling equipment, such as rotary drills, mud pumps, and hoisting equipment, following established procedures and safety guidelines
• Monitoring drilling progress and making necessary adjustments to ensure efficient and productive operations
• Conducting and documenting pre-drilling checks and inspections to ensure equipment remains in optimal condition; promptly reporting malfunctions or issues to the supervisor
• Collaborating with the drilling team to ensure adherence to drilling plans, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
• Leading the setup and dismantling of drilling rigs and associated equipment
• Performing routine maintenance tasks on drilling equipment, including lubrication, filter changes, and minor repairs
• Communicating effectively with team members and clients, facilitating a smooth workflow and timely project completion
• Maintaining accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and inventory levels
• Adhering to safety protocols, regulations, and company policies to maintain a secure working environment
• Demonstrating strong leadership as a team leader and guiding the rig crew
• Prioritizing attention to detail for precise execution of drilling tasks and operations
• Providing mentorship and fostering the growth of team members
• Excelling in both the mechanics of drilling and administrative skills, including documentation and paperwork
• Managing administrative tasks and paperwork efficiently
• Adapting to various weather conditions and exposure to the elements during drilling operations

AboutYou

To qualify, you will need to have preferably 2 years of experience as a driller in the oil and gas industry (specifically core hole drilling operations), and av alid driver's license with a clean abstract (Preference given to Class 3 and Class 1 drivers).

• Proficiency in relevant computer applications and digital software tools for safety documentation, employee status, and equipment work orders
• Possession of valid oil field tickets, including First Line Blowout prevention (willing to train suitable candidates)
• Willingness to travel as required by the job
• Expertise in coring geotechnical drilling and rig operations
• Exceptional leadership, mentor and training qualities
• Proficiency in administrative tasks, paperwork, and drilling mechanics
