In response to the Community Safety and Wellbeing Strategy, this role would support participants, including youth, adults and seniors, to navigate complex social challenges using a strength based and trauma-informed approach, through community outreach, call line and in-office support.

This position builds strength-based relationships with residents facing multiple challenges, and works alongside individuals to identify needs, co-create action plans, build skills, and connect them to appropriate services and resources. Through solution focused case management and walk-in services, this position guides individuals through the complex system of social, financial, and physical and mental wellbeing supports.

The successful candidate would also be involved in identifying and developing solutions to reduce barriers to service delivery within the County and with partnering social serving organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support individuals experiencing distress by leading participants through solution-oriented processes and interventions, promoting capacity building and independence, enabling informed choice, and promoting social inclusion
  • Apply legislation, community protocols, municipal policy, and guiding frameworks as they relate to the role
  • Support a coordinated, flexible and one-stop philosophy; invest in relationships with key community partners to enhance service delivery; identify service barriers and solutions for change to achieve seamless service delivery across social serving organizations
  • Provide leadership in project and committee work, conduct research and maintain awareness of service trends
  • Lead, plan, develop, implement and evaluate activities (e.g. community presentations; psycho-educational sessions and workshops; assigned projects)

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in social science or a related field with 3 years of relevant experience or a diploma and 5 years’ experience, with a preference for those fields with regulated practice
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with people in distress and overwhelming situations using a strength-based, solution-oriented approach
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with leading projects, activities and committee work and/or developing and facilitating skill-building, psycho-educational sessions
  • Ability to build relationships and trust and work in trauma-informed ways to de-escalate participants is essential
  • High level of adaptability and flexibility is essential in this fast pace, evolving work environment; positively and quickly managing change and stress is important to success in this role
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with a teamwork orientation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an openness to other's ideas
  • Ability to gather information and apply critical thinking within a changing environment
  • Ability to independently and proficiently apply knowledge and skills to practice
  • Ability to lift and carry program resources and materials
