With a long history of keeping roads safe and giving back in ways that build stronger communities, we offer a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding careers that move BC forward.

We are currently hiring a Solution Architect based in our Burnaby Head Office.

As a Solution Architect, you’ll play a strategic and hands-on role in shaping the future of BCAA’s business applications. You’ll lead the adoption of best practices in architecture, development standards, and technical compliance, while working closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and enhance enterprise systems. This role blends high-level architecture work with 50% hands-on development, offering a unique opportunity to drive innovation while staying deeply engaged with technology.

Please note that this is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office (3 Remote / 2 On Site). Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver / Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley region will not be considered.

Who you are :

You lead by example—translating best practices into practical implementation, mentoring team members, and holding the bar high for code quality

You’re a forward thinker who keeps current with evolving technologies, frameworks, and compliance standards like PCI and TQS

You thrive on collaboration, balancing big-picture architectural vision with detailed system design and development

You communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, from developers to senior stakeholders

You take pride in solving complex problems and improving system performance, security, and reliability

What you’ll do :

Define, implement, and enforce software development best practices, standards, and design patterns across teams

Lead architectural design for both new initiatives and enhancements to existing business systems

Act as a technical mentor, conducting code reviews and ensuring compliance with security and quality standards

Work hands-on in application development (50% of your time) using technologies such as Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, and ASP.NET Core

Identify and resolve design or performance issues in critical business systems

Guide teams through TQS and PCI compliance requirements, auditing processes, and recommending remediation strategies

Collaborate with IS Leadership to align technical initiatives with the broader IS Strategic Plan

Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on Change Control Review Boards and key architectural decisions

Lead data architecture initiatives including data modeling, flow analysis, and design for integration and reporting

Build and automate testing and monitoring solutions to ensure ongoing product quality

Coordinate technical resources on key projects and act as a liaison between architecture and development teams

Perform business system analysis or data architecture duties as needed

Stay current with emerging trends and technologies to continuously drive innovation and modernization

What you bring :

Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience

10+ years of hands-on experience in application development using Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, and .NET technologies

4+ years in a solution or enterprise architect role with a strong focus on scalable system design

Deep understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, and design patterns

Experience leading root cause analysis and resolving system-wide technical issues

Solid knowledge of application server configuration, database modeling, and systems integration

Demonstrated ability to enforce standards that improve performance, maintainability, and compliance

Experience working within PCI, TQS, or similar regulatory frameworks

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to translate architecture into action

Technical Strengths include :

Backend : Node.js, Fastify, ASP.NET Core, API development and integration

Cloud & Infrastructure : AWS, Vercel, Sitecore CMS

Database : MS SQL Server, advanced SQL, NoSQL

Strong architectural design and modeling capabilities for n-tier web-based systems

Experience developing and enforcing secure and efficient integration standards across platforms

Bonus Skills :

Ability to translate business goals into technical architecture strategies

Experience applying statistical or research methods to evaluate and optimize system performance

Strong organizational, analytical, and facilitation skills

Proven track record of proactively resolving issues and driving technical consensus
