Summary:

The Solar Electrical Technician is responsible for assisting with all O&M PV plant maintenance operations, including testing, maintenance, and repair of PV system components. This role involves comprehensive training in PV fundamentals, installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of small commercial and utility-scale PV systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize safety by adhering to OSHA, NFPA, local codes, and company safety protocols. Complete required training and demonstrate understanding before on-site activities.
  • Develop understanding of electrical theory to interpret design drawings and identify electrical safety hazards.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to improve plant performance and efficiency.
  • Work on energized electrical parts in accordance with electrical codes and company policies, following proper training.
  • Use tools such as multimeters, IR cameras, and irradiance meters for electrical maintenance.
  • Conduct safety briefings and ensure safety procedures are followed during work.
  • Attend training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Travel to remote sites within the fleet to support project completion.
  • Implement Lockout/Tagout procedures for electrical safety.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot DC faults in the PV plant.
  • Complete and submit inspection and testing data accurately and promptly.
  • Document work using CMMS and organizational platforms.
  • Operate monitoring software, troubleshoot communication issues, and manage data files.
  • Perform basic networking tasks, such as changing IP addresses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working with energized AC/DC systems or relevant experience.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and PV system fundamentals.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Aptitude for learning testing equipment and procedures.
  • Strong collaboration skills with technicians, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ability to learn new software.
  • Professional conduct aligning with company policies and vision.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel to remote sites.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or bend for entire shifts.
  • Lift, push, or pull 50 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Vision of 20/40 with or without correction and color discrimination.
  • Ability to wear PPE and work on-call, including off-shift and weekends.
