Job Responsibilities :

A construction labourer or construction worker performs physical labor on construction sites, primarily focusing on installing structural solar materials including foundations, solar racking, and PV modules. They also prepare sites by cleaning, loading or unloading materials, and removing hazards. A general labourer may operate some equipment or assemble/disassemble temporary structures. They are vital to solar construction, building, and environmental remediation activities.

Duties :

• Mounting and securing solar panels to structures using various tools and materials
• Aligning solar panels according to site layout plans and engineering drawings
• Assembling racking system components, such as beams, rails, and supports, following manufacturer specifications
• Using tools like wrenches, drills, and levels to ensure precise assembly
• Securing racking structures to foundations, ensuring stability and proper alignment
• Fastening racks securely with bolts, screws, and other fasteners
• Loading and unloading construction materials and transporting them to work areas
• Installing and removing forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, barricades, fencing, and related materials at construction sites
• Assisting heavy equipment operators in securing attachments
• Signaling heavy equipment operators for movement guidance
• Installing, aligning, fastening, and commissioning materials and related activities
• Leveling earth to grade specifications and performing trench digging or backfilling
• Removing debris and waste using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.
• Operating manual and powered hand tools
• Tending or feeding construction equipment
• Oiling and greasing machinery
• Directing traffic near construction sites

Skills and Qualifications :

• Experience in solar installation or large site construction
• Class 5 driver’s license
• Ability to pass a fitness-to-work test
• Some knowledge or capacity to learn electrical construction and safety protocols
• CSTS 2020 Foundations certification (available online for free through ACSA)
• A quality mindset and attention to detail
