Job description

Position: Solar Technician

The Solar Technician will travel to job sites around the defined service area and help build and maintain solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle infrastructure. The technician must be competent and qualified to work on electrical and/or mechanical components of Renewable Energy assets. Responsibilities include full system installation, commissioning, maintenance, system performance evaluation, and troubleshooting of power and energy systems. Must reside in the GTA or immediate surrounding area.

What you’ll be doing as a Solar Technician:
  1. Follow all Health and Safety policies to maintain a zero-incident workplace.
  2. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on utility, rooftop, and energy storage system assets.
  3. Complete maintenance logs, work orders, service reports, and safety documentation.
  4. Use electrical testing equipment including multimeters, meggers, thermal imagery, and complete torque tests and performance evaluations.
  5. Follow and implement LOTO plans and procedures, including energizing/de-energizing procedures.
  6. Interpret schematics and blueprints.
  7. Conduct quality assurance checks and inspections to document deficiencies and identify corrective actions needed.
  8. Follow OEM specific maintenance requirements in addition to company standards and industry best practices (e.g., NETA MTS, CSA Z463).
  9. Work in a team-based environment and independently as necessary.
  10. Participate in on-call weekend services on a rotating schedule.
  11. Identify issues and provide feedback for ongoing project development.
  12. Work overtime as needed.
  13. Maintain site cleanliness and safety, including buildings, vegetation, fences, gates, and roads.
  14. Ensure spare parts inventory is organized and maintained.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years electrical field experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education in electrical or mechanical fields is an asset.
  • 309A Electrical license preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a suitable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 34kg (75lb).
  • Ability to determine color codes.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
  • Customer-focused attitude and professional representation of Spark.
  • Firm commitment to safety.
  • Ability to travel within the territory and work overtime or on-call as needed.
