Job Responsibilities

Soil handling monitors are responsible for supporting client reclamation programs, including soil salvage, soil placement, reclamation monitoring, and compliance with regulatory commitments. Successful candidates will gain a thorough understanding of the pipeline and mining regulatory environment and industrial operations, in addition to contributing to the successful reclamation of major industrial projects.

  1. Supervision of conservation and reclamation activities along pipeline rights-of-way or on mining leases.
  2. Assisting Project Managers with various tasks as they arise.
  3. Data management through the collection, entry, synthesis and reporting phases.
  4. Site seeding and vegetation control.
  5. Preparing various formats of field reports.
  6. Ground disturbance preparation and hazard assessment.
  7. Accurate completion of chain-of-custody forms and delivery to the lab when needed.
  8. Assisting with biophysical scopes of work such as soil survey.
  9. Providing input on how best to use the technology available to us to improve the reclamation process.
  10. Attending workshops, meetings, and other similar events.
  11. Exercising good judgment in situations that are not covered by policies and procedures.
  12. Pursuing continuing education and participating in conferences and workshops.
  13. Preparing regular, timely and accurate timesheets, expense reports and other relevant documentation.
  14. Assisting with equipment maintenance and safety.
What We Are Looking For
  1. Have completed or are working towards a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science or Diploma in a reclamation-related field from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  2. Eligibility to register with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA).
  3. An absolute, genuine dedication to working safely.
  4. Ability to work productively independently as well as in a team setting.
  5. Results-oriented and efficient, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an affinity for working respectfully with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
  7. Proficient with computers and software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at least an intermediate level of proficiency).
  8. Comfortable using advanced GPS units or tablets.
  9. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with clean drivers abstract, able to travel throughout the provinces and work weekends when necessary.
  10. Physical capacity for strenuous fieldwork including walking long distances through rough terrain.
