Job summary

Waterloo Hydrogeologic is seeking a Software Test & Support Specialist to lead software testing efforts and provide post-release support from our Waterloo, Ontario office. The role supports the Development and Support teams and ensures high-quality software prior to releases.

The ideal candidate has a CS degree or equivalent experience, 3+ years in software testing, and strong Python/SQL skills with a track record in client-facing support and meticulous problem-solving.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in software testing and QA methodologies.
  • Experience with desktop software testing and GUI test automation.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans, including GUI automation.
  • Report defects and suggest improvements to Development.
  • Provide post-release technical support to users.
  • Monitor QA metrics and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Assist Support team in a backup role when needed.

Job Title: Software Test and Support Specialist
Reports to: Software Development Manager
Position Summary

The Software Test & Support Specialist will be responsible for the software testing efforts, ensuring that all software products meet the highest quality standards before release. In addition, this role will provide post-release technical support, addressing user issues and helping maintain software reliability. This position will be pivotal and will require the candidate to assist our Support team in a backup role when required. This position will be based out of the Company’s office in Waterloo, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities Experience/Skills
  • Meets agreed-upon project deadlines and time commitments;
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner;
  • Defines and tracks quality assurance metrics such as defect counts and bug re-open rates;
  • Reports software defects or suggested improvements to the Development team;
  • Develops and executes individual test plans including test automation at the GUI level;
  • Follows all Company standard testing procedures to complete tasks;
  • Defines and enforces standards and processes for software or product testing;
  • Oversees testing activities ensuring that testing efforts align with project goals and timelines;
  • Verifies work items during the development cycle;
  • Provides technical support to end-users, addressing issues related to software functionality, installation, and usage;
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses software problems, providing timely and effective solutions;
  • Professionally responds to assigned technical support questions;
  • Monitors software performance post-release, identifying and addressing any issues;
  • Provides remote troubleshooting for client support issues when necessary;
  • Ensures quality assurance standards are adhered to work items;
  • Any other duties as required by the Company.
Experience/Skills
  • Diploma / bachelor’s degree in computer science or in a related field or 3+ years relevant equivalent experience;
  • 3+ years’ experience in software testing and with quality assurance methodologies;
  • Experience with desktop software test automation using Python and Test Complete preferred;
  • Knowledge of database structures (SQL, MS Access, etc.) and basic networking preferred;
  • Experience dealing with clients for computer support required;
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines required;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
