Job description

Software Manager - Architecture Simulation and Optimization (Hybrid)

Xanadu’s mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.

At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. What we are doing is extremely hard, the classic moon shot. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!

Your role and responsibilities:

Xanadu is looking for a Software Manager to oversee the development of numerical tools used by the architecture team to design and benchmark methods for synthesizing photonic GKP qubits. The team is developing MrMustard , an open-source Python library for simulation and optimization of quantum optical circuits, as well as internal tools for large scale analysis of photonic qubit state preparation protocols. A strong background in simulation of quantum circuits, and a basic knowledge of quantum optics is preferred.

As part of this role you will:

  • Work with the State Prep team to understand the tools needed to accelerate their research and meet their deliverables.
  • Translate team needs into requirements for software architecture and features.
  • Develop and improve processes to ensure development efficiency and consistent delivery timelines.
  • Manage 1 full-time developer, and coordinate software contributions from ~10 team members.

Basic qualifications and experience:

  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Math, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of development experience.
  • 1+ years of software project management experience.
  • Experience with numerical computation and high-performance computing.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred qualifications and experience:

  • Expertise in simulating quantum circuits, as demonstrated by in-field experience, coursework, thesis, or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience with benchmarking and performance-oriented optimizations.
  • Knowledge of quantum optics, as demonstrated by coursework, or experience.
  • Familiarity with automatic differentiation methods and frameworks (e.g., Autograd, Torch, TensorFlow, JAX).
