Bourgault Industries in Saskatchewan invites a hands-on Software/Firmware Developer Intern to contribute to desktop, mobile, and embedded systems for agricultural equipment during a 12- or 16-month program. You will code, test, and help integrate hardware with software under engineering supervision.

The role offers exposure to requirements gathering, design, testing, and documentation, plus occasional travel to the main production facility in St. Brieux and other test locations.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in engineering or computer science program and eligible for internship.
• Proficient in C, C++, C#, Python and related tools.
• Able to design, implement, test and document software components.

Job description

We are seeking a hands‑on Software/Firmware Developer Intern to support the development of desktop, mobile, and embedded systems for agricultural equipment. This 12- or 16-month internship offers practical experience in coding, testing, and hardware integration within a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug and document C#, C\C++, and python applications.
• Participate in requirements gathering, program design, and feature implementation
• Support prototype assembly, testing, and field validation.
• Collaborate with internal teams to integrate features and resolve software and hardware issues.
• Write and maintain technical documentation and test procedures.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Analyze and troubleshoot system performance and reliability.
• Stay current with development tools, technologies, and best practices.
• Occasional travel to main production facility in St. Brieux and to various test locations may be required
• Currently enrolled in an engineering or computer science program (software, computer or electronics engineering or computer science) and eligible for your college's internship program.

Required Skills/Experience

• Proficient in C, C++, C#, Python.
• Experience with VS Code and/or MS Visual Studio
• Experience with test automation.
• Experience with Linux is an Asset.
• Experience with Django web development is an asset.
• Understanding of UI applications.
• Familiarity with agricultural control and displays would be a strong asset.
• Capable of writing and executing unit and integration tests.
• Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
• Clear communication, comfortable working independently or in teams.
