Job summary

Netlight is growing a new Toronto team and is seeking a Software Engineering Consultant to solve real business challenges across backend, frontend, cloud, and data domains. You will embed with client teams, deliver practical software solutions, and strengthen your craft in a collaborative, mentor-driven environment.

You’ll work across technologies, engage with AI-assisted coding, and grow within a culture that values autonomy, knowledge sharing, and international collaboration.

Qualifications

• 1–4 years of software engineering experience after graduation.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).
• Based in Toronto; 100% in-person role.
• Legally eligible to work in Ontario, Canada.
• Curiosity about multiple industries and technologies.
• Tech-agnostic mindset with proficiency in C++, Java (Spring Boot), Python (FastAPI, Django), Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure), SQL.
• Experience using AI coding assistants/LLMs and integrating AI capabilities into products.

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust, scalable software systems in close collaboration with engineers, product managers, and designers.
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of software development, from system design and implementation to testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Develop high-quality, scalable solutions for complex challenges across distributed systems, APIs, data, and user-facing applications.
• Use and build with AI day-to-day - from AI-assisted coding to designing and shipping AI-powered features - to move faster and deliver more value to clients.

About the Role
As aSoftware Engineering Consultantat Netlight, you will join a collaborative, ambitious, and mutually supportive environment where you define your own journey. You’ll partner with industry-leading clients to solve real business challenges, tackle a variety of technical domains, and grow alongside a brand-new Toronto team. The role has a lot in common with a forward deployed engineer position: you’ll be embedded directly with client teams, building and shipping solutions on the ground to solve their most pressing problems.

Qualification we are looking for

Compensation and Benefits

• Transparent salary development throughout your career with semi-annual compensation reviews
• For this role, candidates can expect a starting base salary of CA$95,000 - CA$109,000. Total starting compensation ranges from CA$95,000 - CA$125,000, consisting of base salary and variable salary. Actual compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and role level.
• Variable salary is our version of a bonus program and, it is paid out bi-weekly together with your base salary. The amount is based in part on your seniority and on the group performance of Netlight
• 20 paid vacation days prorated per calendar year
• 10 paid Care Days (sick/personal days) per year with unlimited additional unpaid sick days
• Extended Health Benefits and Dental Care including an additional CA$1,000 HSA and CA$500 Wellness Account (taxable)
