About Affirm

Our Merchant Engineering team develops products that are easy for developers to integrate, enabling Merchants and Partners to leverage the Affirm network effectively. Our goal is to build a scalable, robust platform to enhance the purchasing experience both online and in-store.

Team Focus

The Merchant Risk Intelligence & Platform (MRIP) team automates merchant risk assessment throughout their lifecycle within Affirm. We develop backend platforms and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable ML engineers to build models that automate decision-making, ensuring smooth and thorough risk management for merchants.

Responsibilities

• Support project breakdown, phased delivery, and collaboration to ensure timely completion.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams, participating in ideation and technical decision-making.
• Maintain team artifacts, monitor metrics, and support operational and on-call duties.
• Engage in community-building activities such as participating in interviews.
• Work closely with ML engineers to ensure effective and explainable merchant decision processes.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and launching APIs with Python or Kotlin.
• Ability to develop solutions involving multiple software components with clear, tested, extensible code.
• Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging, and conducting code reviews.
• Proactive in seeking feedback and ownership of personal growth.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration.
• Practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Grade: L | Equity Grade: 5

Base salary: $125,000 - $175,000 per year, with comprehensive benefits including health coverage, stipends, time off, and stock purchase plans.

Work Environment
