Job summary

Marqeta, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer II for the Core Edge Processing team to write and ship production code that powers real-time payment processing.

You’ll work closely with senior engineers and own features end-to-end, from design through production, in an on-call capable role. You’ll deepen your Java skills, learn distributed systems, and contribute to a high-availability infrastructure that routes and authorizes transactions across card networks.

Job description

As Marqeta's Software Engineer II on the Core Edge Processing team, you will write and ship production code at the heart of our processing systems, learning alongside senior engineers on a team running real-time, always-on payment infrastructure. Core Edge Processing owns the systems that route and authorize transactions across card networks, along with the cryptographic infrastructure underneath them. This is a hands‑on role where the quality of your code directly shapes whether transactions succeed.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the province where you reside, whether that's Ontario or British Columbia, Canada. We'd love for you to join us!

Who You Are

• An engineer with 2+ years of professional experience, including deploying and operating mission‑critical services in AWS

• Solid in Java fundamentals, with a real interest in going deeper

• Comfortable debugging and troubleshooting production issues, with teammates to back you up

• Eager to learn distributed systems and the world of payment processing

• A strong communicator who asks good questions and takes feedback well

Nice-To-Haves

• Exposure to payment processing, card issuing, or network integration concepts

• Familiarity with cryptography or key management concepts

• Prior on‑call or production‑support experience

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta calibrates pay to a competitive value according to working location. When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new‑hire base salary range for this full‑time position, reflected in CAD, is: $92,900 - $116,100
