Senior Software Engineer - Card Network Integration

Marqeta is seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join the Network File Integration team. In this role, you will help design and deliver scalable software solutions for batch and event driven processing of card network settlement and transaction data. You will own and deliver projects in service of quarterly goals on the team and independently identify solutions to solve ambiguous, open-ended problems. You will work in collaboration with your team and cross-functional partners.

The Impact You’ll Have

Developing, managing and maintaining card network transactions at scale.

Creating Digital Wallet Tokens via Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Building out-of-this-world backend experiences for our customers, internal and external.

Getting cards to customers faster.

Managing chargebacks and disputes with Card Networks.

Facilitating money transfer via ACH and through ATM networks.

Applying APRs and fees to Credit customers.

Building a world class 3DS Access Control System.

Iterating and innovating on ways to bring quality backend software from ideation to production faster.

May focus on DevOps and Infrastructure Engineering and provide expert guidance on operationalizing services and implementations of the cloud infrastructure necessary to meet goals, particularly as it relates to scaling, resilience, and global availability.

Architect, design and develop large, complex projects.

Collaborate with other engineers to prioritize and ship features.

Partner with Product Managers to scope and estimate new work.

Participate in on-call coverage.

Who You Are

You bring 5+ years of experience in software, or data engineering, ideally in payments or financial services processing and are comfortable driving outcomes with limited direction

A strong passion to write code with high quality and test coverage.

Experience developing in Java and/or Python, however we welcome experience in other programming languages.

Proven track record designing, building, and scaling batch and streaming/event-driven data pipelines using technologies like Apache Spark or distributed query engines (Athena, Trino, Presto).

Hands-on experience implementing robust data lake solutions using formats like Iceberg or Delta Lake, ensuring high data reliability, schema integrity, and integration with distributed query engines.

Experience making technical trade offs and navigating technical complexities.

Experience mentoring other Engineers.

Demonstrated ability to quickly identify root causes of production issues and recommend or implement improvements.

The ability to demonstrate humility, empathy, and to take constructive feedback positively.

A desire to grow in your career, learn, share ideas and help others grow and learn.

Demonstrated experience working productively on cross-functional teams and taking a collaborative, team oriented approach.

Experience with payments or the FinTech space.

Experience with Microservices.

Production experience with modern engineering and cloud tools. (We use AWS, but welcome other cloud experience).

Experience in software delivery pipelines, CI/CD systems, and software deployment and orchestration systems such as Kubernetes and/or Docker.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta calibrates pay to a competitive value according to working location. When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this full-time position, reflected in CAD, is: 116,000 - 145,000
