Job summary

Planview's Vancouver-based Software Engineer I Co-op team offers hands-on experience in Portfolio Intelligence. You will work on a range of technologies and contribute to real-world projects that identify risks in strategic initiatives, applying classroom learning to practical challenges.

You will collaborate with a distributed team, gain mentorship, and develop critical software engineering skills across cloud, data, and automation domains.

Qualifications

• Experience with OO languages (Java/C++/C#) in projects or coursework.
• Strong CS fundamentals, data structures, algorithms and distributed systems.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain features using modern technologies.
• Develop scalable cloud applications in AWS using C#.
• Build and manage an insights pipeline with ML/data-science capabilities.
• Improve CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions.
• Analyze problems, define requirements, and propose solutions aligned with product goals.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through code and process feedback.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Software Engineer I Co-op to join the Portfolio Intelligence (PI) team in Vancouver, BC for an 8-month co-op term. Software Engineer I Co-ops on the PI team will be challenged with a wide variety of technologies and responsibilities that will give you valuable skills for your career as a Software Engineer. You’ll contribute directly to projects that help organizations identify risks in their strategic initiatives and ways to resolve them – giving you a fantastic opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world challenges.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain features using a variety of modern technologies, depending on your skills and preferences, such as:
• Developing highly scalable and resilient cloud applications in AWS using C#
• Build and manage an insights pipeline that uses a combination of agentic workflows and traditional Machine-Learning/Data-science capabilities
• Improving our CI/CD pipeline in GitHub Actions
• Assist in analyzing problems, defining requirements, and proposing solutions that align with our product objectives
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by providing thoughtful feedback on code, design, and processes
• Analyzing, reproducing, and resolving technical and application problems.
• Developing and maintaining our automation tools and various test scenarios.

What You'll Bring

Skills and experience you’ll have:

• Exposure to software development in any modern object-oriented programming language such as Java/C++/C#
• Basic knowledge of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, problem solving and asynchronous architectures.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team environment.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work proactively and seek guidance when needed.

Other skills that are nice to have:

• Experience with SQL and no-SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL/MySQL, DynamoDB/MongoDB, etc.)
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins
• Some knowledge of containers and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Network communications development (e.g., REST, HTTP)
• Experience with Test-Driven Development
• Previous experience working on distributed teams (even for academic group projects)
