The Role

We are looking for full-stack software engineers excited about empowering customers and internal users with capabilities to monitor and observe CockroachDB as part of our Observability team. This team handles the flow of observability data from infrastructure to analysis, aggregation, and consumption through various interfaces, supporting troubleshooting for our users.

You Will

  • Contribute to the growth of CockroachDB, enhancing its capabilities and ease of use.
  • Improve observability features on Cockroach Cloud, our managed database service.
  • Develop using Go and React / TypeScript, with learning opportunities if unfamiliar.
  • Collaborate with engineers and product managers across teams.
  • Foster a collaborative culture and share knowledge within a highly experienced team.
  • Ensure scalability, survivability, and consistency as the company grows.

The Expectations

In the first month, you'll learn about our systems, workflow, and architecture. After three months, you'll be a fully contributing team member, focusing on projects aligned with your interests and our goals. As the team expands, you'll influence the development of CockroachCloud and CockroachDB, with support through training and mentorship.

You Have

  • A passion for working on complex technical products.
  • Comfort with graphical interfaces using React.
  • Understanding of system and API design, infrastructure like Kubernetes, AWS / GCP / Azure.
  • Exposure to distributed systems, data pipelines, metrics, logs, traces, and cloud observability technologies.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in collaborative development and code review.
  • A BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

You will report to a member of our Engineering Leadership, working closely with senior leaders like Namrata Kodali, Director of Engineering, and Isaac Wong, EVP of Engineering. Our leadership team has diverse backgrounds and a passion for technology and culture.
