EPITEC is seeking an Android Software Engineer III for a 1 year+ contract in Waterloo. The role is hybrid, requiring 1 day onsite weekly, and focuses on designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality Android applications.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years IT experience with strong Android skills in Java and Kotlin, solid Android XML UX, and experience in Agile environments, CI/CD, and TDD. Backend integrations and API work are part of the scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, IT related field is required.
• Minimum 6 years of IT experience and 4+ years in software development.
• Strong Android development experience with Java and Kotlin.
• Experience building Android UI with Android XML (Jetpack Compose optional).
• Experience across the SDLC, architecture, and mobile best practices.

Rate: $40.00-$70.00 per hour

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Android Software Engineer III to join a collaborative engineering team focused on building and enhancing mobile applications that deliver exceptional customer experiences. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality Android applications while participating in the full software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will bring strong Android development expertise using Java, Kotlin, and Android XML, along with a passion for solving complex technical challenges and creating user-centric solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Android applications and software solutions throughout the entire software development lifecycle.
• Partner with customers, product owners, designers, architects, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements, user needs, and pain points, translating them into effective software solutions.
• Create scalable and maintainable software architectures that support current and future business objectives.
• Develop intuitive, responsive, and user-friendly mobile interfaces with a strong focus on customer experience.
• Build and maintain backend integrations, APIs, and services required to support mobile application functionality.
• Evaluate software requirements and determine appropriate technology stacks, integration approaches, and deployment strategies.
• Collaborate within Agile development teams to deliver high-quality software on schedule.
• Implement and support software testing strategies, quality standards, policies, and development best practices.
• Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration (CI), and Continuous Delivery (CD) methodologies to improve software quality and release efficiency.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability through continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support application security practices, including data protection, encryption, and privacy considerations.
• Research and adopt emerging technologies, tools, and development practices to enhance engineering capabilities and product innovation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum 6 Years Of IT Experience.
• Minimum 4 years of software development experience.
• Strong Android development experience using Java and Kotlin.
• Experience developing Android user interfaces using Android XML (preferred over Jetpack Compose).
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining mobile applications throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of software architecture, application design patterns, and mobile development best practices.
• Experience working within Agile software development environments.
• Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration (CI), and Continuous Delivery (CD).
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience implementing mobile application security best practices.
• Knowledge of performance optimization and application monitoring techniques.

Additional Information
