Google's Core team is hiring an Android Infrastructure Software Developer to work out of Waterloo, Ontario. This is a senior-level engineering role focused on building the tooling, frameworks, and libraries that power Google's first‑party mobile applications — the kind of work that shapes how hundreds of developers write and ship Android code every day.
Rather than building features that end users tap and swipe, this role sits one level deeper: you'll be designing the developer infrastructure that makes everything else possible. Think build systems, dependency injection frameworks, test automation, and developer productivity tooling — the plumbing that keeps a massive engineering organization moving fast and shipping quality software.
As part of Google's Core team, you'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the Android developer infrastructure that underpins Google's mobile ecosystem. You'll partner with product teams across the organization to identify developer productivity bottlenecks and deliver scalable solutions. This includes leading design reviews, reviewing code, and contributing to documentation and educational content that helps developers across Google do their best work.
Beyond building, you'll also be expected to triage and resolve product and system issues by identifying root causes and assessing their impact on service quality. Google is looking for engineers who can work across the full stack, demonstrate technical leadership, and adapt as the team's projects evolve. The Core team has a unique mandate to influence technical decisions company-wide — this is a high‑impact position with broad reach.
This role offers a salary range of $182,000–$186,000 CAD per year, plus a 15% bonus target, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. Google's benefits are well‑regarded in the industry — visit Google's careers page to learn more about what's included.
